Dimitris Bakas | contemporary composition
Born in Katerini, Greece, in1975, Dimitris Bakas studied Composition with Theodoros Antoniou. In 2004 he moved to London for further studies in composition at Goldsmiths, University of London (Master’s and PhD) under the supervision of Roger Redgate. In 2009 he was a shortlisted composer at Sound and Music UK. His music has been performed in the UK, Greece and the USA and has successfully participated in competitions worldwide. For the academic year 2010 – 2011 Bakas was accepted as a visiting scholar by Tristan Murail at Columbia University in New York where he completed Post Doctoral Research

Athena Katsanevaki received her PhD in Ethnomusicology and Historical Musicology (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, 1998). She has presented papers at international conferences and is a member of the MOISA Society and ICTM. Traditional singing as sound, practice and performance is one of her main research focuses since 1990. Athena lectures at the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki, Greece, where she also runs the vocal ensemble “Echo”.
